![]() ![]() After two months of minimal job searching, however, he has overstayed his welcome, and Stephanie, although fed up with him, has no time to deal with it as she is too busy hiding her tennis dates from Bennie. Almost a year later, Stephanie’s brother Jules comes to live with them after he was paroled from a prison sentence, the result of an interview gone wrong with a movie star, and was trying to get back on his feet. ![]() ![]() That night, Bennie renounces all relations with the people at the Country Club, but Stephanie, not wanting to be a social outcast like their neighbor, Noreen, continues her socialization with Kathy while keeping it more and more secret from her husband. This culminates at a cocktail party they attend when Clay brings up a touchy political topic and insinuates that Bennie should not be trusted. Bennie, however, doesn’t get the “in” that Stephanie does and is left receiving strange looks for his dark skin and odd last name. As time passes, Kathy and Stephanie become something resembling friends, despite Stephanie’s perceived mutual resentment between them based on the clashing cultures. As an attempt to fit in, they apply and are accepted to the local Country Club where they meet Kathy, who becomes Stephanie’s new tennis partner, and her husband, Clay. ![]() Bennie and his wife, Stephanie, have moved into the wealthy suburb of Crandale where their alternative lifestyle stands out against the homogenous society that populates the area. ![]()
